The Five Ten Quantum: luckily, you don't need a Masters in physics to understand how this climbing shoe works. Quite simply, the Quantum is an all-round performance shoe designed for a diverse range of climbs with many different features and angles. The Huber brothers (one of which actually does hold a Masters in physics), Alex and Thomas, who were the pair that ended Hans Florine's 5-year hold on the record speed ascent of The Nose, El Capitan, in 2007, worked with Five Ten to make a comfortable performance shoe, ideal for climbers tackling aggressive and long overhanging routes or technical and varying big wall and multipitch climbs. A true performance all-rounder.
Versatile Stealth® C4™ rubber provides the best adaptability on all types of climbing, while a moderately downturned shape with a slightly wider asymmetric last than Five Ten's traditional constructions allows the foot to sit in a more natural position. Quite interesting; this variability allows for comfort off-load and performance whilst climbing. The stiff midsole is as supportive as possible to prevent calf-pump on longer climbs and improve edging performance. And the tongue is a perforated Ariaprene which moulds to the foot and enhances breathability.
The Quantum features a lined synthetic upper that will not stretch and requires no breaking in. Being a comfort-performance shoe, we advise fitting the Quantum in the middle area of loose and snug for the best balance.
